If any of you follow the Premier League as well you may know that top flight clubs in England spent a mind boggling £430m in the recent January transfer window, which translates to roughly $600m! Whilst here at Leyton Orient we didn’t quite reach those crazy figures, we did bring in a number of new players as the squad underwent an overall as Manager Justin Edinburgh put his stamp on the team.
Forward Dan Holman scored our equaliser during Saturday’s draw with high flying Tranmere Rovers and he joined on loan from Cheltenham Town on the 3rd of January. Just two years ago the striker netted 16 times in 18 matches in this division for his former club so here’s hoping this weekend’s strike is the first of many in our colours!
Young centre midfielder Ebou Adams also came to Brisbane Road last month on a temporary deal from Championship team Norwich City and the 22-year-old already has one international cap for the Gambian national team. Lamar Reynolds, an attacker who was scouted playing at the V9 Academy (set up by England International Jamie Vardy to showcase lower league footballers), has come in on loan too from Newport County.
James Brophy, who previously enjoyed a productive loan spell at The O’s earlier in the season, has come back and signed permanently from Swindon Town. The winger produced some exciting performances during his previous spell in the side and we’re looking forward to seeing his positivity on the ball again now that he’s committed to us on a two-and-a-half-year deal.
Another player who has re-joined is Sam Ling. The young defender was a graduate of our youth system here in East London and joined local rivals Dagenham and Redbridge in 2016. He’s come back to Orient having established himself as a first team regular for Dagenham and adds depth to the back line.
Highly rated centre back Marvin Ekpiteta has also been given a contract until 2020 after signing from East Thurrock United, He has gone back to the Essex side to continue his development in the division below us and will re-join his new team this summer so we look forward to seeing him in an O’s shirt next season!
Although some of them may not be at the same level as the blockbuster transfer of Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal to Manchester United, these have all been vital signings as we look to charge back up the National League table and also continue our promising FA Trophy run when we face Gateshead in the quarter final on the 24th of February.
